Efforts on to open border trade: Sena

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Arunachal Pradesh Government is taking an all out effort for opening of border trade with Myanmar through Pangsau Pass and through Bleeting/ Dongshengmang with Bhutan and China, said Finance, Trade & Commerce and IPR Minister Setong Sena while inaugurating a two-day consultative workshop on Export Potential Survey and Strategies for Arunachal Pradesh and Training on Export Marketing Procedure and documentation at Tourism Conference hall here today.

The programme is being organized by the Department of Trade & Commerce in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kolkata.

Arunachal Pradesh has a unique geographical position sharing a long international border with neighboring countries of China, Bhutan and Myanmar and can play a significant role in enhancing the country’s total export, he said and advocated for more steady supply of export –oriented entrepreneurs to materialize the export potential of the state. The more entrepreneurs the state would be having, the faster the potential would be encased, he added.

He further stressed on implementing the ‘Look East Policy’ for the North East to open up the corridors to the South East Asian countries for promoting border trade and transactions to these countries. Arunachal Pradesh should be a party to the Global Village, as India is a partner in the economic growth along with other developed nations, he said.

Stating that Arunachal Pradesh is a virgin state with huge resources, Sena felt the need to combine its human resources with the natural resources/potentialities to prepare a proper road map for promoting the trade and commerce sector.

The state has no history unlike other states, he said and insisted on creating history for the future through proper policies. He said that the people of the state are enthusiastic and ambitious which is obvious from the emerging growth of successful local entrepreneurs and emphasized on tapping the potentials through appropriate investment friendly policies. The Minister further asked to import technology and other financing aspects from other developed nations to maintain the quality of the products. He also advocated for promoting eco- friendly sectors like tea, horti-agri products, tourism, cane-bamboo etc for sustainable development of the state, besides using renewable resources without spoiling the forest. Appreciating the effort of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata in conducting study on export potentiality for the state and training for promoting a group of export oriented entrepreneurs, Sena hoped that the workshop would help to convert the plans into action and urged the participants from various stake holders to take maximum benefit from the programme and develop requisite skills for becoming successful export oriented entrepreneurs to bring Arunachal Pradesh in the export map of India.

In his address, Thangwang Wangham, Parliamentary Secretary Trade & Commerce said that acquaintance with the various procedures of export and import marketing is the need of the hour. He said that though the state has abundance of exportable products which are of high demand in the international market, these could not be exported to competitive market owing to lack of proper policy and export-import mechanism in the state and informed that IIFT, Kolkata has been assigned for study on export potential and strategies for the state, adding that a clear cut policy on export –import and proper road map of export would be taken up by the state government on the basis of the recommendation of the study report. He said that generation of more and more trade and commerce activities and harnessing of vast natural resources and growth of exports are expected in the next 5-10 years period after completion of all road projects under Trans Arunachal Highway projects and hoped that this would raise the living standard of the people to a better and economically higher level. Wangham further hoped that the workshop would foster a new beginning in trade and economic activities of the state for the benefit of both the people and government.

Earlier, Dr K. Rangarajan, Centre Head IIFT, Kolkata, in his key note address gave an outline of the Export Potential Survey conducted by IIFT to develop a road map for trade and development in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. There are huge potentials to explore in the state considering its vast resources, he said and emphasized on political will along with organization force for achieving success in the sector.

Commissioner Trade & Commerce M Pertin and Director Trade & Commerce Tokong Pertin also spoke on the occasion.

The programme, which started with lighting of ceremonial lamp by Sena, Wangham and other dignitaries also witnessed felicitation of B.K Ghose Dastidar, former Chairman of Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and a state silver medalist, 2010 by the department of Trade & Commerce for his distinguished services towards establishing cooperative sector in the state, besides being instrumental in introduction of VAT in the state.

The two day long workshop attended by representatives from various line departments, local entrepreneurs and other stake holders would cover topics on opportunities for exporters, export policy of GoI, formalities to be observed to start with export business, export documentations procedures, besides discussion on action plan for export with the faculty members from IIFT, Kolkata as resource persons. Unions say no to big dam

ROING, Feb 23: All Assam Student Union (AASU), All Tinsukia Dist Student Union (ATDSU) and All Idu Mishmi Student Union (AIMSU) discussed the culture of big dams in Arunachal Pradesh and its implication in a meeting today. The organisation further resolves to say ‘No to big Dams’ and decided to raise the issue mutually in front of the government to review the dictatorial policy.

“Number of dams at single Dibang basin is like dumping of dams over a minority community i.e. Idu Mishmi which can not be tolerated”, rues one of the AIMSU member.

The AASU is in support of Micro dam, big dam will cause serious impact in the integrity in bringing demographic change, serious environment impacts and threat in the culture and traditional life style of the people of North-East, conversed one of the member.

While urging the AASU delegate, Unti Umbrey President AIMSU said that the Apex body like AASU should make liaison with the AAPSU to make the movement effective and call frequent meeting to raise the common issue of both the state. Tengapani finds its place in tourist map

Chongkham, Feb 23: Thailand Ambassador to India Krit Kraichitti has advocated for promotion of relationship between India and Thailand. The ambassador is on a three day visit to Chongkham to attend dedication ceremony of golden pagoda being consecrated on February 24

Krit said that Thai and Khamptis have affinities in culture and tradition. With the spread of Buddhism , the area will attract tourist from Buddhist country of South East Asia and strengthen relationship between both the countries. He assured help and assistant of government of Thailand in promotion of Buddhist culture and tradition.

Krit who was accompanied by his wife Mrs Korbkit Kraichitti and counselor of Thai Embassy donated a Buddha staute, and chivara(yellow robe) for monks on the occasion.

Three day consecration ceremony of golden pagoda at Tengapani near Chongkham began with installation of golden umbrella atop the pagoda amidst religious fervor on February 22.

Situated at left bank of Teeng river along NH 52A, the pagoda was constructed by PHED Minister Chowna Mein and being dedicated to the people. The pagoda will be enshrined with Buddha relics during the three day ceremony. Mein conceived the proposal during his visit to Thailand in 1995. The pagoda will house centre Buddhist study and research. Apart from spiritual teaching it will also impart formal education, Tai script with particular emphasis to girl child.

Meanwhile a consignment of 3,000 books on Buddhism is being sent from Malaysia for the centre. The centre would be an Institute of cultural research and work on folklore and folks song which are losing first due to advent modernity.

Over 200 monks from different parts of the country and Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore and Malaysia based in Buddh Gaya and Sarnath have already arrived to attend the ceremony. Besides the local population thousands of devotes from neighboring Asom and Myanmar thronged the festival ground to witness the sacred ceremony. Release of fire balloon, floating lamps, religious procession and cultural function were other highlights of the celebration.

Mild earthquake rocks Assam

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale rocked Assam Tuesday, triggering panic among residents.

According to the Regional Seismological Centre in Meghalaya's capital Shillong, the tremor was felt at 12.26 p.m in most parts of Assam. No casualties were reported in the first 90 minutes after the quake.

The epicentre was located 25.8 degrees north Latitude and 93.2 degrees East Longitude in Nagaon district of Assam.

The tremor was felt in Guwahati, Nagaon, Tezpur, Jorhat and Khohima, besides some other parts of eastern Assam.

Seven northeastern states - Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur - are considered by seismologists to be the sixth most earthquake-prone belt in the world.

Students unions of Siang belt to move Assam CS

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The conglomeration of different students union of Siang belt under the leadership of Tobom Dai spokesperson AAPSU today took stock of the Dipa incident at Pasighat which occurred yesterday.

The house present took strong exception to the incident, where hundreds of vehicles with Arunachal registration were stranded till late night with no help forthcoming from both state governments and where the innocent commuters were put into extreme hardship and at the mercy of irate mobs resulting in the reported physical assault on Kangken Panggeng S/o J.K Panggeng, Parliamentary Secretary law and fisheries.

The house resolved to submit a memorandum to the Assam Chief Secretary tomorrow to immediately arrest the culprit involved in the reported assault on Kangken Panggeng to be spearheaded by the apex students body of the Adi community Adi Students’ Union (Adisu) within fifteen days otherwise the union will be compelled to take its own course of democratic movement.

The house observed that every civilized society respect the “right to live” of an individual and every section of Arunachal society condemned the reported killing of a Nepali man in Mikong Pasighat but at the same time that doesn’t mean innocent commuters who doesn’t have anything to do with the incident be taken to task for no fault of theirs, release said.

The Dipa incident have once again exposed the lack of coordination between the two state government where innocent commuters were seized by the agitating group for about 10(ten) hours and the parochial attitude of the Assam Administration who were covertly toeing the of the line agitators rather than providing any solace to the people stranded, the house felt.

The agitation led by the Gorkha Students’ Union (Dipa unit) has deeply hurt the age old relation and sentiments of the people particularly when the culprit was apprehended promptly and put behind bars as per their demands, the release added.

Relief assistance distributed to Naharlagun fire victims

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Local MLA Techi Kaso along with ADC capital Bokar Basar and police personnel today distributed Rs 25,000 each to the pucca house, Rs 10,000 each to OBT house and Rs 10,000 to each household victim of the Feb 18 fire incident at Panchayat Colony, G-Extention, Naharlagun.

According to an official release, 15 houses were gutted and 54 households were affected in that fire incident. However, the Capital ADC along with fire fighters of Naharlagun police station timely interrupted and controlled the further destruction. MLA Techi Kaso also visited the sport immediately, the release said. Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu released relief amount following persuasion of the city administration and local MLA.

Basar also advised the people present and fire victims to be cautious in future to avoid such incident, the release added.

Ray of hope for the unemployed engineers

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Much to the delight of the agitating unemployed engineers of the state, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu on Tuesday assured to look into grievances of the Unemployed Arunachalee Engineer’s Association (UAEA) and halt illegal appointments in various departments. This was disclosed by the Association after having a detail discussion with the CM today.

The UAEA informed the media persons in a press briefing that the chief minister has given his words for immediate cancellation of illegal appointments in all technical departments/ institutions.

The unemployed engineers who have been passing through a trouble phase for being unemployed, further said that assurance was also made for temporarily halt in promotion and deputation in concerned department till roster system is balanced/maintained (50:50)

However, the Chief Minister maintained that the demands for inclusion of JE exams to the APPSCE and 100 percent reservation for the APST engineers will be discussed in state assembly, the Association claimed.

Coming out with a bagful of assurance, the association further disclosed that besides conducting numerous technical exams in month of April/May 2010, MoUs/MOAs rules would be strictly followed for employment avenues of the educated unemployed.

Cabinet will set up an enquiry commission to tackle problems related to brokers/fixers (job agent) and separate mechanical engineering wing will be established with creation of more number of mechanical related posts in all departments especially that of transport, the association said.

Every department of the state has government vehicles. But the maintenance of departmental vehicles has been taken cared of by the private mechanics incurring huge expenditure to the department concerned. The state Govt should find ways and means so that the mechanical and automobile unemployed engineers can be absorbed in various departments. This will ultimately solve the unemployed problems, particularly for the mechanical and automobile engineering graduates as well as enrich the coffer, maintained one of the UAEA members.

UAEA expressed gratefulness to CM for his patient hearing and hoped that in future unemployment problem will be solved under his guidance.

Festival of oneness ends on a high note

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The prizes for the various categories of competitions organized during the three-day Festival of Arunachal 2010 was given away by the Commissioner Finance and Planning V.K. Dev as the chief guest at the valediction function yesterday.

The Chief Guest in his address opined that celebration of such Festivals is the best medium to promote and propagate the spirit of oneness and brotherhood among the people of the state.

Further, the Chief Guest expressed his happiness with the enthusiastic participation of the people all through the period of the Festival and appealed for the support of the people in the “Green and Clean Arunachal” drive and capital facelift initiative launched by the District Administration.

Earlier, DC Capital Padmini Singla highlighting the spirit of the festival said that “the Festival of Arunachal’’ has been organized with the twin objectives - where all tribes of the state come under one platform adding the concept of the Food Village where all tribes prepare their food under one platform was also an effort in this direction. Besides showcasing the art and culture of the state the Festival also aims to represent the rich cultural heritage of North East India and other parts of India in general. Citing the reason for celebration of the “Festival of Arunachal” along with Statehood day the Capital DC said the developmental initiatives of the State Govt. has been highlighted through the various Departmental stalls with the objective to reach the maximum number of the people.

Cultural Displays from Orissa, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Kalashetra Itanagar and other budding talents and a Fashion Show by Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic were other highlights of Evening. The Prize for the Best Exhibited Stall was given to NERIST Nirjuli, while the Food Stall No.7 Chi Mum Mum Poong received the Best Food Stall Competion. In the Ferns & Petals Flower Arrangement Competition Tulip Nursery, Harmuty was adjudged first, with the second prize going to Cathlea Nursery, Itanagar. The prizes for Celebrating Oneness Poem/ Prose Competition Click Your Camera, Folk dance and Semi Classical and Sing-a- Song competition among others were also given away on the occasion.

Sanitation walk conducted on Statehood Day

Maintain cleanliness for clean and healthy Arunachal: Mein

NAMSAI, Feb 23: In order to giving a boost to the Total Sanitation Campaign in the state, a Sanitation Walk was organized here commemorating the statehood day on Feb 20 last. Shouting slogan on Total Sanitation like -‘Make Arunachal Open Defecation Free’, ‘Clean Arunachal, Healthy Arunachal’, ‘Adopt Sanitary Habits & Hygiene Practices’, ‘Meri Pariwar ka Sanmaan Meri Shaan,’ ‘Sochalay Banyengey Safai ko Apnayenge’, ‘Apne swasth Apne Haat’etc., people from all walks of life, including Govt officials, PRI members, Bazaar committee and school children led by PHE &WS Minister Chowna Mein and Namsai MLA Nang Sati participated in the sanitation walk which culminated in the Bazaar traffic Chowk.

Addressing around 500 participants the minister Chowna Mein said that in the country 18 crore mandays are lost due to sanitation related diseases and financial loss per year is amounted to 1200 crore. It is the responsibility of all to alleviate the disease from the society and make ones environment a good place to live, he said.

Giving a clarion call for a paradigm shift in the mindset of the people to inculcate the sense of self-cleanliness, environmental sanitation and personal hygiene in school and in domestic life, the minister said that a sanitary toilet in the homes, Anganwadi and schools is a must. He appealed all to join the movement in the Team Arunachal to accomplish the dream of Clean Arunachal Healthy Arunachal.

Nang Sati Mein made it loud and clear that sanitation is everybody’s business and if any one fails, it’s the failure of all. A little bit everyday, everybody, a habit to change for good should be the Mantra.

The executive engineer PHE&WS Division Namsai Er.Tayum Tok disclosed that due to mere carelessness and ignorance an estimated 1000 Indian children under five years die everyday because of diarrhoea, a preventable disease. The death toll is equivalent to three jumbo jets crashing each day, he said.

Sanitation walk also reportedly organized various parts of the lohit district. Around 2000 school children and Govt officer and officials took part in the sanitation walk at Tezu HQ, at Mahadevpur Hq students, govt officials and Panchayat leaders took part in the Sanitation walk and at Wakro Hq about 100 children and Govt staff took part with street plays on Plastic pollution was organized, according to an release.

ANINI: Addressing as a chief guest of the Statehood Day celebration at Anini general ground, Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner, Tayor Jempem has appealed the Govt developmental agencies and people to work in unison to attain a peaceful and vibrant society.

“Our main focus should be all round development of this remote border hill district,” he said and called upon the people to shoulder responsibility to create development oriented assets, he added.

Expressing his unhappy over the sporadic incidents taking place in the HQ, Jempen said such incidents have disturbed the peace and tranquility of Anini, which may attract the district administrations stern action against the disturbing elements. ‘Keep market area clean’

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: While supporting the clean and green Arunachal movement, Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) President Bamang Taji appealed shopkeepers of the Itanagar to keep surrounding of their shop clean and hygienic to ensure dirty free and clean market. Adding that a fine will be impose against the particular shop if found neglected.

Further, taking concerned about entry of stray business, Hare ek mal, Mela and Expo in the market, he said that it creates dirty, pollution and dispute in the market. The IMWA would take strict steps to such business group on cleanliness.

IMWA appealed the state government for construction of dustbin, drainage system, parking place, waiting shed and toilet in the market area and with consultation from the district authority a fixed rate on vegetable items will be fixed to maintain balance rate of vegetable items in the market.

Meder Nello inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Chief engineer, Western Zone PWD TH Tayum inaugurated a Medar Nello at E Sector, Itanagar on February 21 last.

He appreciated the construction committee and Meder Nello management committee for rendering philanthropic services for the cause of society and its indigenous faith and traditional culture and donated an amount of Rs 20,000 to the committee.

Guest of honour, IFCSAP Vice President Er. Tage Taki also appreciated the committee and appealed them to maintain the working spirit for the cause of Indigenous faith and traditional culture.

AYSU campaign for polytechnic

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: All Yachuli Students’ Union (AYSU) has urged the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) to impress upon the higher authorities for establishment of a polytechnic at Yachuli as proposed earlier by the state govt.

Claiming that some public leaders and officials were attempting to divert the project from Yachuli to some other place, the union said the people of the Yachuli are ready to donate the required land and all other logistic requirements for the polytechnic free of cost. It threatened to resort to democratic movement if a positive solution of the issue is not reached.

State BJP to join nationwide protest against price rise

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Following the decision of the national conclave of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) recently, about 200 party workers of the BJP Arunachal Pradesh has also decided to join the nation-wide Delhi Chalo programme in protest against the price rise in the country on April 21, said a party release.

Book on Nyishi proverbs released

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: A book on Nyishi proverbs “Kullu Nyitin Kurium Harmin” was released by Parsi-Parlo ZPM Sangha Tagik on Tuesday.

Releasing the book, Tagik urged younger generation and educated people of the community to preserve those words of wisdom of our forefathers which are in verbal form. These invaluable treasures of oral literature of the great Nyishang (Nyishi) are disappearing day by day and it is right time to promote, protect and preserve our rich oral literature for posterity, he said adding that modernization does not mean to discard our own culture.

The book is compiled and written by Bake Maha (Joseph) and published by Nyishi Atu Apa Nyitin Society.

AASU & AIMSU resolves to fight common issues

ROING, Feb 23: In continuance with the kidnapping case that took place on Feb 2 last, All Assam Student Union (AASU), All Tinsukia Dist Student Union (ATDSU) and All Idu Mishmi Student Union (AIMSU) have made a straight talk at the circuit house here today in order to give sturdy push to the Assam police to apprehend the person involved in taking hostage local businessman at Dholla under Tinsukia district of Assam.

“The kidnapping being a criminal case it does not related to entire Assamese community of Assam. We stand against such cowardice and shameful act committed by a group of criminal. The innocent people here should not be targeted as we have been pursuing the SP and DC Tinsukia to nab the culprit soon. Though the criminal are still absconding and police is taking time but I hope they will be arrested at all cost”, said AASU president Shankar Pd. Rai. He also suggested joint effort to create pressure to SP and DC Tinsukia with join delegation constituting AIMSU & AASU to arrest the perpetrator.

The AASU delegate while condemning the kidnapping as unfortunate, assures to give all sorts of support to the AIMSU to fight against any injustice meted out to the people of Arunachal and promise to hold time to time talk to fight join issue pertaining to both the side of the state.

It need to be mentioned here that a local young businessman was abducted on 2 February last at Dholla and was released on 4 February after paying a ransom of Rs 5,25000.

Meanwhile, the Assamese society Roing has sharply criticized the kidnapping of local businessman on Feb 2 last at Dholla under Tinsukia district (Assam). In an emergency meeting held recently at the Assamese Namghar premises under the Chairmanship of G.K Koch to discuss about abduct and demand of ransom, the society come down heavily to those criminal involved in such dastardly act.All the members present in the meeting commonly decided to be alert against such kind of anti-social activities and requests all to maintain peace, understanding and goodwill among the people of two peace loving states.

RIS celebrates its annual day

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Royal international School, Naharlagun celebrated its 10"' Annual Day at its school premises recently. on the occasion the Chief Guest MP Takam Sanjoy inaugurated the SMART CLASS a computer based audio - visual facility in the class rooms, first of its kind in Arunachal and the 5th school to introduce in the entire North Eastern states.

‘Construct four lane road’

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Arunachal Pradesh Development Welfare Association (APDWA) has appealed to the state Govt for construction of four lane road immediately to accommodate the growing number of the vehicles.

The association demanded that unemployed youths be given employment opportunities in deputy residential Commissioners (DRCs) office, Arunachal Bhawan, guest hosues and there should be police out post in every circle of the state to tackle unlawful activities.

It also demanded broadcasting of Doordarshan programme in different districts of the state and sanitation, health and hygiene for the common people.

ITANAGAR: Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan, Itanagar students show outstanding performance and brought laurels for the school and the state as a whole in the All India Essay writing event organized by Ram Chandra Mission in collaboration with United Nations information centre for India and Bhutan in commemoration of international day of youth on August 12 and the UN International year of reconciliation.

Hage Namie and Sushmita Paul of class IX won 1st and 2 prize at the regional level category-I, Tadu Nini and Pema Yangchin of class XII won 1st and 2 prize at the regional level category-II. While, Tanisha Agarwal and Goda Abu were adjudged as 3rd and 4th winners at school level category-I respectively.

State police team brings laurels

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Police team lead by Deputy SP Ninkar Taming secured IV rank in over all performance in the 53rd All India duty meet on security held at Gujarat recently.

Constable MK Chetri of security unit secured Bronze Medal.

Meanwhile, DGP Arunachal Pradesh has awarded commendation certificate along with cash award to the team for their outstanding performance in the AIPDM.
